Jaipur: The Rajasthan government on Sunday clamped partial night curfew in eight cities of Rajasthan keeping in view the increasing number of COVID-19 cases in the state. The cities include Ajmer, Bhilwara, Jaipur, Jodhpur, Kota, Udaipur, Sagwara and Kushalgarh. The night curfew will be in effect from 10 pm to 5 am every day. No commercial activity will be allowed during this time period.

When the government clamped night curfew the last time, the curfew timing was from 8 pm to 6 am (commercial establishments were to be closed by 7 pm); however, the government has given relief to bars and restaurants by extending the night curfew timing. These businesses were worst affected by these restrictions.

A senior government official said that the timing is tentative.

“People should now start taking COVID-19 guidelines more seriously. The government will be forced to increase the curfew hours if the virus spread is uncontrollable in the near future. This should act as a warning for people. They should wear mask and follow social distancing guidelines. Most people are now not wearing masks,” the officer said.

The number of positive cases had come down to 10-20 per on average, but it began to climb over the past two weeks. On Friday, over 80 people tested positive.
