Mumbai ATS, Jaipur cops arrest 2 criminals for gold smuggling

Police recovered gold biscuits weigh 2 kg, Rs 48 lakh cash, two foreign pistols and 40 cartridges from the accused men.

Jaipur: The police arrested history sheeter Omprakash aka OP Thekedaar and his aide Surya from Jaipur on Thursday for gold smuggling. Police recovered gold biscuits weighing 2 kg, a cash amount of Rs 48 lakh, two foreign pistols and 40 cartridges from the duo.

The search operation was conducted by Mumbai ATS team with the help of Jaipur police and intelligence department.

The two accused allegedly opened fire at the police officials in order to flee from the spot but the police team caught them on Jaipur-Delhi national highway on Thursday.

According to the Mumbai police, the accused men used to smuggle gold biscuits from Dubai to Mumbai and then sell it in Jaipur. The police were searching for the duo for the past 15 days in Jaipur. They were finally caught on Thursday.

The accused Omprakash is a resident of Shrimadhopur in Sikar and used to smuggle gold biscuits from Dubai. The other accused Surya is a resident of Mumbai and used to supply the gold biscuits in Mumbai and Jaipur with the help of Omprakash.

Many cases of gold smuggling attempts in Jaipur have come to fore over the past few months. Smugglers are using different methods to trick security agencies at Jaipur airport and railway stations. Security agencies are keeping a close eye due to an increase in gold smuggling from Bangkok, Dubai and other countries.
