Jaipur: Local RSS leader attempts suicide by setting himself on fire in Vaishali Nagar

The incident took place around 5 am on Sunday. Raghuveer Sharan lives in a flat at Crown Plaza in Vaishali Nagar. He owns a drug store, Kiran Medicals, in C-Block of Nursery Circle.

Jaipur: A 45-year-old man, identified as Raghuveer Sharan Agarwal, poured petrol on his body and set himself on fire at Amrapali Circle in Vaishali Nagar area on Sunday morning. Raghuveer Sharan was reportedly an office-bearer of RSS in Vaishali Nagar and owned a drug store business.

He kept running for nearly 100 meters after putting himself on fire and shouting slogans – ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’, creating panic among passers-by and commuters. Some people doused the fire by pouring water on his body and rushed him to a hospital. His family members took him to a hospital in Delhi due to this critical condition. He sustained 80% burn injuries.

In a statement to the police at SMS Hospital, Raghuveer Sharan allegedly said that he was depressed over increasing disharmony in the society. However, the police have not ruled out the possibility that Raghuveer was depressed over some domestic issues. Local residents said that Raghuveer Sharan runs an RSS branch near Amrapali Circle.

He left home on the pretext of morning walk early on Sunday and when he reached Amrapali Circle, he poured petrol on his body and set himself afire.

Before attempting suicide, he had called up his family members also, according to preliminary report. His condition is stated to be critical.
