Advocate commits suicide two days after attempting to kill wife

JAIPUR: An advocate, identified as Dhoop Singh Poonia committed suicide by jumping into the swimming pool of a hotel in Jaipur.

The incident occurred on Sunday night, and the lawyer’s body was recovered from the water after 20 minutes of struggling.

According to the police, Dhoop Singh had been arrested two days ago for attempting to murder his wife, Meenakshi. He had been released on bail just a day before he took his own life.

The investigation revealed that Dhoop Singh had reached the Chitrakoot police station two days ago and confessed to killing his wife. However, when the police arrived at his home, they found Meenakshi alive and undergoing treatment at SMS Hospital.

The CCTV footage of the hotel’s swimming pool shows Dhoop Singh struggling for 20 minutes before eventually succumbing to death.

He was seen sitting on the edge of the pool, looking around before entering the water and attempting to drown himself. The police have confirmed that no foul play was involved in his death.

The case against Dhoop Singh was registered at Chitrakoot Nagar police station under attempt to murder charges. On February 1st, he had beaten his wife Meenakshi with an iron pipe, causing severe injuries all over her body.

Their son Aryan found her unconscious and bleeding and immediately called an ambulance to take her to SMS Hospital. Thinking that he had killed his wife, Dhoop Singh went straight to the police station and confessed to his crime.

He was released on bail on Saturday afternoon but struggled with suicidal thoughts for two days before ultimately taking his own life in front of several witnesses at Hotel Eurasia’s swimming pool located in Mahavir Nagar area of Bajaj Nagar Police Station jurisdiction..
