Jaipur: Rajasthan anti-corruption bureau (ACB) on Thursday arrested a junior engineer (JEN) of UIT Kota, identified as Vimal Maheshwari, after he was allegedly caught red-handed taking a bribe of Rs 5,000.

The accused JEN was demanding money from an ACB complainant to issue a no-objection certificate for house construction, sources said. The engineering was booked under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

According to ACB officials, the trap was carried out under the supervision of ASP Chandrasheel Thakur.

A man had approached the ACB and registered a complaint accusing Vimal Maheshwari of demanding bribe to issue an NOC.

“We verified the complaint and then organized a trap. He was caught red-handed accepting the bribe on Thursday. He was taken into custody,” said an ACB officer.

The officer said that searches were being conducted at the engineer’s office, residence and other places belonging to him.

The investigation is continuing.
