Jaipur: An 18-year-old coaching student in Kota, identified as Karan Kumar Ghasi, made a video call to his father to inform him that he had decided to end his life and then committed suicide by hanging himself at his hostel room on Thursday. The family members informed the hostel owner immediately, but by the time the owner checked on the student, Karan had hanged himself. He was rushed to a hospital where he died while undergoing treatment.
The victim was a resident of Sirdhani Charnan village in Barmer district. The incident took place at Vikas Nagar in Kunhadi police station area in Kota. Karan was preparing for medical entrance examinations.
“He had come to Kota after completing his secondary education. He took a room on rent in Vikas nagar nearly a year ago. He was a class XII student currently,” said a police officer.
The officer said that Karan made a video call to his father Punmaram around 7 am on Thursday and told him that he was ending his life.
The family members immediately called up the hostel owner, Devakinandan who was in Gumanpura area in Kota at that time. Devakinandan called up his son and told him to check on Karan, but his room was found locked from inside. When the room was broken open, Karan was found hanging.
The family was distraught and inconsolable. They reached Kota from Barmer on Thursday evening. Since Karan’s father is a heart patient, he was not immediately told about his son’s death. Karan had six sisters, all of them elder to him.
