Jodhpur: Woman constable commits suicide, accuses family of threatening her boyfriend

Jaipur: A woman constable, Saroj Meghwal, committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan at her parents’ house in Osian area of Jodhpur district on Thursday.
She sent some videos to her boyfriend before ending her life in which she stated that she didn’t accept her child marriage and she was being threatened by her family members as she wanted to marry the boy of her choice.
Her boyfriend, Hemant, alleged that she had even sought police protection due to the threats from her family members, but nobody came forward to help her.
Saroj, a native of Sirmandi village, joined police force as a constable in 2015.
“I love Hemant ji. I love him, but my family members are against it. They have threatened him and are forcing me to lodge a bogus FIR against him. If anything happens to me, my family members are responsible,” Saroj said on video.
Saroj was deputed in Jodhpur police commissionerate. Her brother informed the police about the suicide following which a team was rushed to the spot.
“A postmortem examination was conducted and the body was handed over to family members. An investigation has been launched. Prima-facie it seems that the woman was under depression,” said a police officer.
Saroj’s father is a retired army man. Her two brothers are also police constables.
