Jaipur: Rajasthan anti-corruption bureau (ACB) on Friday arrested SDM of Manohar Thana in Jhalawar district, Sanwarmal Raiger after he was allegedly caught taking a bribe of Rs 7000. The accused officer was allegedly taking the bribe through a tea stall owner outside his office and his driver. He allegedly demanded the money for not seizing an earth moving machine being used for mining. The SDM threatened to stop the mining operation if the bribe was not paid, officials said.
The trap was laid by a special ACB unit from Kota. This is the first trap of an SDM in Hadauti region.
According to ASP, ACB Chandrasheel Thakur, one Amritlal Meena had approached the agency complaining that Sanwarmal Raigner was demanding bribe from him.
“The officer was threatening to seize the earth moving machine being used by Meena for sand mining. The officer told Meena that he would not allow him to continue sand mining if the bribe was not paid,” said the officer.
After the complaint was verified, a trap was laid. SDM had demanded Rs 20,000. After negotiation, Sanwarmal agreed to accept Rs 10,000, said the officer. He asked his driver Sunil alias Subhash Jat to take Rs 3,000 from Meena, the first installment of the bribe.
The ACB arrested Sanwarmal when the remaining amount of Rs 7,000 was being paid to a tea stall owner outside the SDM’s office in Manoharthana. The ACB team arrested the SDM, his driver and the tea stall owner and booked under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act. Further investigation is going on.
