Jaipur: Congress MLA Vishvendra Singh courted arrest in connection with Jat reservation agitation in Bharatpur on Tuesday. Jat Reservation Committee under the leadership of Vishvendra Singh protested the police cases lodged against community members during the previous agitation.
MLA Vishvendra Singh with his supporters staged a protest outside SP office in Bharatpur and insisted that they be arrested. The cops finally took Singh and some of his supporters into custody.
A large number of community members staged a sit-in and surrounded the police vehicle that was taking MLA Vishvendra Singh to a nearby police station. Other supporters were demanding their arrest too with MLA Vishvendra.
The Congress MLA alleged that the Rajasthan government had promised to withdraw all the cases lodged against Jat community members during the last agitation for reservation.
“The government betrayed us and the administration is now threatening arrests. We are courting arrest in protest and fight the government tooth and nail. We are not afraid of these tactics,” said Vishvendra Singh.
Some social media posts went viral on Monday night, claiming the youths from the community were not getting government jobs due to police cases registered against them.
