Jaipur to have crime branch police station to probe cases of organized crime

Jaipur: A special crime branch police station will be set up in Jaipur to conduct investigations into serious and organized crime cases in a coordinated way. The Jaipur police commissionerate has a crime branch cell, but it is not empowered to register cases. Currently the FIR is registered with the concerned police station. Once the police station is set up, the crime branch will be able to register FIRs and investigate cases on its own.

Only Delhi has a crime branch police station that can register FIRs and conduct investigations independently.

A proposal to set up a crime branch police station was sent to the police headquarters by the Jaipur police commissionerate. It was forwarded to the state government that gave its nod. A gazette notification will be issued soon and the police station will come into existence, sources said.

The new police station will be able to register cases for crimes related to drugs, arms, explosives and organized crime. Currently these kinds of cases are forwarded to the Rajasthan special operations group (SOG), but now the crime branch police station in Jaipur will be able to investigate these cases if they are in its jurisdiction.

The jurisdiction will be the entire Jaipur police commissionerate area.
