Jaipur: Police raid at 20 hookah bars; several arrested

Police received complains about illegal hookah lounges operating in the city. Many teenagers were found consuming several banned and harmful products and substances at these hookah bars.

Jaipur: The police on Saturday raided over 20 restaurants and cafes of Jaipur that were operating hookah bars. Most of the hookah bar operators absconded, however, the police managed to take into custody several managers and owners. Various flavours, chillums, tobacco substances were recovered. The Bajaj Nagar and Vaishali Nagar police carried out the raids.

Nearly twenty lounges including Star Dust cafe located in Signature Tower at Lalkothi, Socialite Café located near Laxmi Temple of Tonk road, Street 59 Café at Vaishali Nagar, Café Oscuro near Gautam Marg of Vaishali Nagar, 3-Ds Lounge at Malviya Nagar and AL Firangi Lounge at Vaishali Nagar were raided. From some of them, several flavoured tobaccos, pan masala products, pipes and other materials were recovered, a Hindi daily reported.

Bajaj Nagar Police arrested owner Rishabh Maheshwari and manager Suresh Jaat of Stardust Café, owner Shravan Jain and manager Mahadev Prasad Nayak of Socialite Café. Vaishali Nagar police arrested owner Manjeet of Street 59 café, owner Ghanshyam Meena of Café Oscuro, manager Sunil of 3-D Lounge and a 19-year-old manager Mangilal Sharma of AL Firangi Lounge, the daily added.
