Jaipur mayor elections today; Manoj Bhardwaj files nomination from BJP

The BJP is making all the efforts to keep the post as losing it will yet again send a wrong single to the voters ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Jaipur: The elections for Jaipur mayor will be held today. Manoj Bhardwaj had filed the nomination from the BJP. Vishnu Lata has filed the nomination as an independent candidate. The rift in the BJP councillors has come to fore with the nominations of Bhardwaj and Lata. The nominations can be withdrawn till 2 pm.

The BJP is making all the efforts to keep the post as losing it will yet again send a wrong single to the voters ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

A meeting was held at a resort where all the BJP councillors had gathered on Monday. The meeting was presided over by election in-charge Satish Poonia, BJP Jaipur district incharge Rajendra Gehlot and district president Sanjay Jail. The councillors agreed that they would leave the selection of the candidate to the party however, a consensus could not be reached.

Senior party leaders claimed that more than 90% of the councillors have reached a consensus. The efforts were on to bring rebels into the party’s fold.

There are 63 councillors from the BJP and 18 are from the Congress in the current board of the JMC. Nine are independents.

Former minister Arun Chaturvedi reached JMC to convince Vishnu Lala to withdraw his nomination. Sunil Sharma has also filed his nomination as an independent candidate.
