Jaipur: Man robbed of Rs 10 lakh after a staged accident

The victim had withdrawn the money from two banks and was returning home in his car when the robbers staged a bogus accident with his vehicle and decamped with the bag containing the cash.

Jaipur: A man, identified as Preetam Sharma, was robbed of nearly Rs 10 lakh near Khetan Hospital on Sikar Road in Vidhyadhar Nagar area on Tuesday.

The victim, a cashier with a transport company, had withdrawn the money from two banks and was returning home in his car when the robbers staged a bogus accident with his vehicle and decamped with the bag containing the cash.

Preetam has lodged an FIR with Vidhyadhar Nagar police station in connection with the robbery.

Preetam had gone to first ICICI bank and withdrew Rs 5 lakh. He then withdrew Rs 4.9 lakh from HDFC. Both branches are in Vidhyadhar Nagar. He was driving home with the bag containing the cash when a man staged a bogus accident with his car. When Preetam came out of his car to find out what had happened, the man started accusing him of negligent driving.

He picked up a fight with him. Meanwhile, some more men came there on bikes and engaged Preetam in a verbal argument. While Preetam was distracted, someone sneaked into his car and took away the bag.

The police have lodged the case and said that a hunt has been launched for the robbers.
