Jaipur: Five new departments at SMS Hospital soon; MCI gives green signal

Jaipur: The Medical Council of India (MCI) has approved the proposal to open five new departments related to cancer and other diseases at Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Hospital in Jaipur. MCI officials will visit SMS for inspection in a week, said hospital officials.  

The five new departments will be Palliative Care, Traumatology, Geriatrics, Sports Medicine and Tropical Medicine Department.

According to the officials, SMS administration aims to provide better facilities to patients along with better treatment. Different faculties of the medical college will be allotted responsibilities of the new departments.

The preparations have been going on for a long time at the SMS medical college. 

Five departments to open at SMS soon are:

1.    Palliative Care

The department will focus on cancer affected patients.

An interdisciplinary approach with specialized medical and nursing care will be used to provide the patient relief from the symptoms, pain, physical stress, and mental stress at any stage of illness.

2.    Traumatology Department

The department will focus on multi-organ treatment that is Surgery, Neuro, Ortho, Skin, and others, especially for the accidents-related emergencies.

3.    Geriatrics Department

The department will focus on health care of elderly people. It will aim to promote health by preventing, treating diseases and disabilities in older adults such as Diabetes, high blood pressure, heart-related problems and others.

4.    Sports Medicine Department

Sports Injury cases are increasing among the youth in the growing trend towards sports.

Due to the growing need, the administration has decided to open the Sports Medicine Department by combining orthopedic, surgery and trauma specialty.

5.    Tropical Medicine Department

Infectious diseases like swine flu remain active across the state throughout the year.

The Tropical medicine department will focus on the patients affected by seasonal diseases from the check-up to treatment.
