JAIPUR: the District and Sessions Judge Court of Jaipur Metro II has sentenced a husband to life imprisonment for murdering his wife. The case was based on circumstantial evidence, and the court found the accused guilty of strangling his wife to death with a chunni during a drunken fight.

The court of DJ Baljit Singh stated that the relationship between a husband and wife is built on trust and dignity, and such acts of violence shatter that trust irreparably.

Considering this and other aggravating circumstances, the court deemed it appropriate to impose a sentence of life imprisonment on the accused. A fine of Rs 10,000 was also imposed on him.

Advocate Sant Kumar Jain represented the state government as public prosecutor during proceedings.

According to police reports, Ram Singh (64) had been fighting with his wife frequently, and one such altercation turned fatal on November 28, 2022 when he killed her in their home under alcohol’s influence.

He then locked up the room from inside before running away from there without raising any alarm or reporting what had happened inside their rented residence at Prempura locality at Vaishali Nagar in Jaipur.

Other tenants reported an unpleasant smell emanating from their room six days later (on December 6), prompting them to inform Suresh Singh- the landlord. Suresh called the cops who broke open the door only to discover Sita’s corpse lying lifeless.

The police arrested Ram Singh that very same day after registering an FIR as they had gathered sufficient evidence.

The statements taken by investigators showed how both spouses were having regular arguments; however, no previous complaints regarding physical assault were lodged against either party.

After consideration of all facts presented before the court today, Judge Baljit Singh convicted the accused and sentenced him to life imprisonment.
