Jaipur: The Child Helpline – 1098 – has become a great help to underprivileged children in Jaipur. The child helpline number in Jaipur is being used by kids and their parents to seek advice and help for various kinds of problems, ranging from stress to child labor and trafficking.

As many as 6210 complaints have been handled by the child helpline number over the past three years. More than 2000 children have been saved from exploitation and child labor. Of the total calls received by the helpline, 161 were from the parents of the children.

“Any child or his or her parents can seek help by calling 1098,” said child helpline nodal director Varsha Joshi.

The largest number cases were about child trafficking in Jaipur, particularly in Bhatta Basti, Brahmapuri, Ramganj and Kotwali areas of the city. In these areas, children are trafficked from nearby states including Bihar and Uttar Pradesh and made to work at factories and manufacturing units under inhuman conditions.

A child helpline cell has been established at Jaipur railway station.

“Most children get off trains at Jaipur railway station being trafficked to the city. We try to identify such cases and provide assistance to these children on the spot,” said Govind Beniwal, the cell incharge at railway station. More than 500 children have been provided help in the past one year alone.
