Jaipur: Cancer OPD at SMS Hospital a big relief for patients

Jaipur: The recently launched Out-patient Department (OPD) for cancer treatment at Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Hospital has come as a big relief for cancer patients. The OPD for cancer patients was launched recently. All the facilities are being provided to them at one place. They will not have to go to different wards and labs for testing and treatment.

According to principal of SMS Medical College Sudhir Bhandari, the cancer department has been opened on the fourth floor of Dhanwantari OPD in SMS.

Initially, the radiotherapy and oncosurgery wing were started for the patients. Soon, the oncology (medicine) wing will also be shifted here. The day care facilities will also be available for the patients in the OPD, added Bhandari.

Earlier, the cancer patients had to go to many places because the radiotherapy and oncology department were located at different places on the premises. Now, the hospital authorities have shifted all the cancer wings on a single floor for the convenience of patients and their families.

According to the SMS doctors, over 300 cancer affected patients come to SMS hospital for checkup and follow up daily. The new cancer department will benefit them in many ways. Everything from doctors’ consultation to tests for cancer are now available under single roof.

The work to develop a separate cancer department in SMS had been going on for a long time, added doctors.
