Jaipur businessman Sukhdev Mehta commits suicide at Nagaur inn

Sukhdev checked into the inn on Tuesday morning. When he didn’t open the door to his room till 11 pm on Wednesday, the manager informed the police. A police team found his body lying on the floor of the room.

Jaipur: Depressed over not being able to pay off his debts, a Jaipur-based businessman, identified as Sukhdev Chand Mehta committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substance at an inn in Nagaur town on Tuesday night. A resident of Chitrakoot in Jaipur, Sukhdev left a suicide note in which he stated that he was taking the extreme step because he was under huge debts. He is reportedly the younger brother former district president of Jodhpur BJP Prasnna Chand Mehta. Sukhdev was a tea distributor.

According to the police, Sukhdev checked into the inn on Tuesday morning. When he didn’t open the door to his room till 11 pm on Wednesday, the manager informed the police. A police team found his body lying on the floor of the room. He was frothing at mouth.

The police found the two-page suicide note addressed to his son Shivant.

In the suicide note, he wrote that he built a business from scratch after joining office in 2001.

“When I jointed the family business, it was in a loss of Rs 1.60 lakh, but by 2012 I worked hard and purchased a house, godown and two more offices. When the family assets were divided in 2006, I was again under debts. I paid it off, but the compound interest went up to Rs 30 lakh per year. I have paid Rs 3 crore in interest,” Sukhdev wrote.

Sukhdev wrote that the tea manufacturing company stopped supply of the product.

“It was when I had to give up. I left home in May, 2018 under pressure of lenders. I came back because you (Shivant) told me to, but I can’t take it anymore. I am trying to find a way to end my life,” Sukhdev stated in his suicide note.

The cops informed the family members following which they rushed to Nagaur. The body was handed over to the family members after a postmortem examination.
