Jaipur: Almost six years after IRS officer Shriram Meena was found murdered at his house in Jaipur, the police arrested the main suspect – identified as Sunil Meena – for the crime. Shriram Meena was carrying a cash reward of RS 10,000 on his head. He had been evading arrest for the past six years in the murder case.
DCP east Rahul Jain said that acting on a tip-off, Sunil Meena was arrested from B2 Bypass area. The police had been on his trail for a long time and was gathering intelligence about his whereabouts. A team of Jaipur East police finally managed to locate him.
The murder took place on June 6, 2013 in Sanganer area of the city. Shriram Meena was found murdered with his throat slit by a sharp-edged weapon inside his house in Jagannathpuri area. Some jewellery, cash, a revolver and a cellphone were also found missing. Sunil Meena and his accomplice came under the police radar during preliminary investigation. One of the suspects – Kamal Meena – who was considered close to Shriram Meena allegedly committed suicide three days after the murder. Sunil Meena was at large since then.
In his suicide note, Kamal Meena had accused some senior police officer of torture and harassment.
A senior police officer said that further investigation in the case is going on. The suspect would be interrogated.
