Jaipur: A woman and her accomplice were arrested by Chomu police for lodging a bogus rape case against a man and then blackmailing him. The woman was demanding Rs 30 lakh from him for changing her statement in the case. Her accomplice was caught red-handed while taking Rs 5 lakh from a relative of the victim.

The accused man was identified as Jogendra Singh Shekhawat, a resident of Singhana. He was currently living in a rented accommodation in New Colony of Jhotwara.

According to DCP Vikas Sharma, the woman had registered a case against one Manoj Sethi with Mahila police station (west) accusing him of raping her at a resort. The FIR was transferred to Chomu police station for investigation.

Manoj Sethi approached the police saying that he was being blackmailed and Jogendra was demanding Rs 30 lakh from him. Jogendra said that the woman would change her statement in the case. He started calling up Sethi’s relatives.

The police launched a probe. It came up during preliminary investigation that the woman took Sethi to a resort on some pretext, said DCP Vikas Sharma. After they returned from the resort , the woman went to the police station and lodged an FIR accusing Sethi of rape.

A relative of Manoj went to Neem Ka Thana on Thursday to pay the first instalment of the extortion money. Jogendra was allegedly caught red-handed while taking Rs 5 lakh from the relative. The police then arrested  the woman.
