Jaipur: A 55-year-old woman ended her life by jumping off a water tank in Harmada area of the city on Friday.
The deceased was identified as Prema Devi, a resident of Raghunath Pura village in Harmada. Police officials said that she was depressed over her husband’s prolonged illness. The family was going through financial hardship due to the expensive treatment for the husband.
“Prema Devi left home at 3 am. The water tank is situated just half a km from her house. She climbed it and jumped off. She died on the spot,” said an official.
The woman’s son found her missing when he woke up and started looking for her in the neighbourhood. The neighbours spotted the body and informed the family. She was taken to a hospital, but declared brought dead. The police handed over the body to family members after a postmortem examination.
“It has come up during preliminary investigation that Prema Devi’s husband was undergoing treatment at a hospital in Chomu for the past three months. His condition continued to deteriorate. She was worried about his husband’s health condition which had taken a toll on the family’s finances. She is survived by two daughters who are married and one boy who is preparing for competitive exams,” said the official.
