Jaipur: Three Pak nationals were arrested by the customs department for allegedly smuggling gold through Thar Express which runs between India and Pakistan. It is for the first that the customs department has seized foreign-hallmarked gold from Thar Express. The gold worth about Rs 23.27 lakh was seized at Munabo railway station in Barmer.

“The gold was in form of biscuits and jewellery. The seizure included five gold biscuits each weighting about 120 grams, three rings weighting 35.1 grams and a bracelet weighting 81.5 gram. The Pakistan nationals were illegally smuggling them into India,” said a customs department officer.

The officer added that the currency notes and gold are seized from Munabao from time to time, but it is for the first time that foreign hallmark gold has been seized.

Three Pak nationals were identified as Kishore Kumar, Ramesh Bheel and Kailash Mali, residents of Sindh in Pakistan.

The customs department officials are interrogating them to determine if any organized smuggling racket is involved.
