Jaipur: Unidentified miscreants opened firing at 32-year-old Rakesh Sharma – vice chairman of Behror Nagar Palika (municipality) when he was attending a wedding function in Behror on Monday night. Rakesh Sharam has sustained injuries on his head and stomach. He was referred to Medanta Hospital in Gurugram for treatment. Tension prevailed in the town after rumours of his death went viral on social media. Police force has been deployed at crowded places in Behror to keep an eye on the law and order situation.

The wedding function was taking place at Shakti Resort Hotel in Behror. Rakesh was sitting in a chair when two men approached him. They also pulled chairs and set in front of him. They then started abusing him and opened firing. Rakesh fell to the ground. He sustained gunshot wound on his head, according to the police.

The firing created panic among people attending the wedding function. The shooters escaped from the spot, taking advantage of the melee. The police are studying the video footages of the wedding function. Many other local politicians were also present when the shootout took place.

According to eye-witnesses, the two assailants had gatecrashed into the party. Each had two guns in his hands.

“The doctors are operating on Rakesh to extract the bullets lodged in his head. His condition is critical, but serious. There were rumours of his death on social media, but they are fake. He is alive and recovering,” said a police officer.

The police are trying to identify the shooters and have rushed teams to locate the suspects.

Police force has been deployed in Behror to maintain law and order.
