Gayatri Devi was born in the royal family of Cooch Behar in West Bengal on May 23, 1919. She was fondly addressed as Ayasha.

It was the love at first sight for Maharaja Man Singh of Jaipur when he met her for the first time. Gayatri Devi was 21-year-old at that time. Since both played Polo, their chance meeting happened to be on a Polo ground.

Gayatri Devi gladly accepted the king’s proposal for marriage. They tied the knot in 1949. Gayatri Devi was the third wife of Maharaja Man Singh. The king passed away in 1970. Their son also died in 1997.

Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan was a fan of the queen’s beauty. In a blog, he revealed that he used to visit the Polo ground, not to enjoy the match, but to watch the queen playing.
