Dussehra 2018: Celebration on Oct 18; Rajasthan government declares holiday on Oct 19

Dussehra festival will be celebrated on different dates in the country this time. Some of the states will celebrate the festival on the ninth day of Navratri, that is on October 18, whether some will celebrate it the next day.

Preparations in Jaipur for Dussehra festival.

Jaipur: Jaipurites will celebrate Dussehra aka Vijayadashami on 0ctober 18 but all the schools, colleges and government offices will remain open on the day of the festival. The Rajasthan Government has declared the holiday for Dussehra festival on October 19.

Dussehra festival will be celebrated on two different dates in the country this time. Some of the states will celebrate the festival on the ninth day of Navratri, that is on October 18, whether some will celebrate it the next day.

Rajasthan will celebrate Vijayadashami on October 18 but the government has declared the holiday for the festival on October 19. All the departments will remain open in the city on October 18.

States including Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Gujarat, Maharashtra will celebrate Dussehra on October 18 while the states including Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Bihar will celebrate it on October 19.

The confusion occurred in the state as the festival date is decided according to the Hindu lunisolar calendar and the Rajasthan government decides the holidays as per the national calendar of the union government.

In western, southern and northern parts of India, Vijayadashami is celebrated to mark the end of Ramlila and cherish the joyous victory of Rama over the 10 headed demon Ravana.
