Jaipur: COVID-19 is spreading at an alarming rate in Rajasthan. The daily count of positive cases crossed 200 in Jaipur on Monday for the first time in March. Social distancing guidelines were openly flouted during Holi celebrations. Medical and health department officials are concerned that it will cause the virus to spread even more in the coming days.

The Sikar district administration clamped curfew in Khatu town after of the 19 people who tested positive in the area, 11 were shopkeepers. Khatu is famous for Khatu Shyam temple. Thousands of devotees from all over the country visit the template to offer prayers on a daily basis. The temple has now been closed for devotees.

“In a random screening by the health department, 19 people tested positive in Khatu. It was very serious because people in large numbers visit the town. At least 11 of them were shopkeepers. So we decided to impose zero mobility orders in certain areas of the town to contain the spread of the virus,” said a district administration official.

On Monday, people celebrated Holi with colours. Many flouted social distancing guidelines. This can cause a spike in positive cases in the coming days, officials said.
