Jaipur: In a major announcement, the Rajasthan government on Saturday said that the private labs in the state will now charge only Rs 800 for a COVID-19 test.
Even as the coronavirus is spreading at an alarming rate with the state now reporting 3000-plus cases on a daily basis, this announcement will come as a big relief for people. Chief minister Ashok Gehlot told media persons about this decision on Saturday.
When the COVID-19 cases were reported for the first time in Rajasthan, RT-PCR test used to cost Rs 4000. It was then Rs 2200. this was reduced to Rs 1200. To provide more relief to the people, the government said that the private labs will now not charge more than Rs 800 for RT-PCR test. The decision will be implemented soon after test kits are provided to private labs at a cheaper rate.
Ashok Gehlot on Saturday inaugurated a 70-bed COVID-19 ICU in RUHS in Jaipur, and COVID test labs in Hanumangarh, Jailsalmer, Tonk, Bundi and Rajsamand’s Nathdwara.
Long queues of people can be seen outside government-run testing facilities. Many people can’t afford tests at private labs due to high cost.
“We are fully committed in our fight against COVID-19. RT-PCR tests are most trustworthy. Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu are the only two states where 100% tests are being done with RT-PCR,” said Gehlot.
