Jaipur: The Rajasthan Roadways will resume bus transport services on Thursday. The buses will be allowed to ply between districts. The ban on interstate travel has not been lifted by the government. Roadways CMD Rajeshwar Singh issued directions in this regard.

As per the directions, nearly 1600 buses will start operations in the first phase. The Rajasthan Roadways was operating 3800 buses before the lockdown. The buses will be allowed to operate across the state. “There is a ban on people entering Rajasthan without a negative Covid-19 report. In compliance with these guidelines, the buses will not operate outside the state,” said a senior Rajasthan Roadways officer. A meeting of senior Roadways officials was held via video conferencing on Tuesday.

The officer said that online bookings would be encouraged. “We have decided to offer a 5% discount to those who book bus tickets online. It will help us prevent crowds at ticket windows and follow Covid-19 guidelines,” said the officer.

The officer added that the depot managers have been asked to ensure compliance with Covid-19 guidelines. The buses will be satanized every time they complete their journey on a route.

The department suffered huge revenue loss during the lockdown as the daily revenue was Rs 4.5 crore. The officials said that more relaxations would be provided based on the Covid-19 infection rate in the state. In Jaipur, the infection rate is now below 2%.

The government has allowed markets to open till 4 pm following the drop in the positive cases.
