Coronavirus: 16 Italian tourists, 1 Indian national in Jaipur test positive

Jaipur: Of the 22 people freshly tested positive for deadly Coronavirus in India, 16 are Italian tourists who visited different parts of Rajasthan including Jaipur over 8 days. The group of tourists had come to India on February 21 and visited Jhunjhunu, Udaipur, Jaipur, Jodhpur and Jaisalmer. The driver of the bus in which the tourists were travelling was also tested positive. The tourists stayed in over half a dozen hotels in the state. Their rooms in all these hotels have been sealed. The tourists and the bus driver have been isolated in Jaipur.

Union health minister Harshvardhan confirmed that 16 tourists from Italy have been tested positive. The group consisted of 26 people including 23 tourists, bus driver, a helper and a guide.

The group first reached Jhunjhunu on February 21. They visited Bikaner the next day and stayed in Hotel Gajkesari. On February 23 and 24, they stayed in Hotel Rangmahal in Jaisalmer. The group then proceeded to Jodhpur and was lodged in Hotel Park. After visiting Udaipur on February 26 (Hotel Trident), the group came to Jaipur on February 28 where they were screened for the virus.

On February 28, one of the tourists in his sixties fell sick. They were staying in Hotel Ramada. He was rushed to Fortis Hospital from where he was referred to SMS Hospital. The first report tested him negative, while he was found infected with the virus in the second test conducted on March 2. His wife was also tested positive.
