JAIPUR: Rajasthan Cabinet Minister Mahesh Joshi and several other individuals have been named in connection with the suicide of a 43-year-old man, identified as Ram Prasad Meeana. The complaint was lodged by Mahavir Meena, the brother of the deceased.

A police officer said Mahavir alleged that his brother had been harassed and threatened by the managers of a template, identified as Devendra Sharma, Lalit Sharma, Rakesh Tank, Munji Tak, and their associates Dev Awasthi, Lalchand Devnani, Himanshu Devnani, as well as Hawa mahal MLA and Cabinet Minister Mahesh Joshi. The accused demanded that the Meena family vacate their land near the temple, despite having a lease from the Municipal Corporation since 2017.

Despite multiple complaints, the Meena family continued to face harassment, according to the FIR. According to Mahavir, Municipal Corporation Officer Neel Kamal Meena admitted to facing pressure from Minister Mahesh Joshi to halt the family’s construction work.

The deceased, Ram Prasad, had planned to build a house on his land near the Silver Mint, Kale Hanuman Mandir. Despite having all the necessary documents, he was allegedly stopped repeatedly by the accused, including Mahesh Joshi. Ram Prasad’s grandmother sought help from Joshi but to no avail. Distraught, Ram Prasad committed suicide by hanging on Monday morning.

Before his death, Ram Prasad recorded a video in which he claimed that the accused had caused him great distress, leading to his decision to end his life. He also stated that his mother, Gulabi Devi, and wife, Suman Meena, were both unwell due to the ongoing harassment. Ram Prasad requested MP Kirori Lal Meena to provide justice for his family.

CI Ramphool of the Subhash Chowk Police Station confirmed that an FIR had been registered with eight named suspects. As a state government minister is implicated, the case will be forwarded to CID (CB) for investigation. A complaint had been filed by temple Mahant Lalit Kumar Sharma regarding illegal construction and heritage structure deterioration.

Water Supply Minister Mahesh Joshi denied the allegations against him, claiming they were baseless. He stated that he would review the FIR and comment further on the matter.
