Jaipur: Nearly two weeks after the Lok Sabha passed the Constitutional Amendment Bill to grant 10 per cent reservation to economically weaker sections of the general category, Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot said that the reservation will be implemented in the state soon. Some other states including Gujarat, Jhakhand and Uttar Pradesh have already made the announcement. The bill has got the nod from the president also.
“When we were in the government, our cabinet had sent a proposal of 14 percent reservation to economically backward. Atal Bihari Vajepayee was the Prime Minister at that time. I am happy that the bill has finally been passed in the parliament. We are soon going to implement it in Rajasthan,” Ashok Gehlot said.

The BJP has threatened that an agitation will be launched in the state if the government didn’t provide the reservation. The party has called for ‘Jail Bharo Anadolan’ on February 8 demanding that the government gives a specific deadline by which the reservation will be implemented in Rajasthan.
The government has made it clear that that existing quotas will not disturb the quota for economically backward in upper castes.
