Bundi tense as people protest against alleged attack on religious rally

Jaipur: The police had to resort to minor lathicharge and detained several people in Bundi on Monday when a group of youths protested against the alleged incident of stone pelting on a religious rally on the occasion of Ram Navami on Sunday. Demanding immediate arrest of those he involved in attack on the rally, youths staged demonstrations in the town and took out a protest rally.

Some youths put tyres on fire and demonstrated in front of Kotwali police station. They blocked the road, causing traffic jam. The police had to resort to minor force to disperse the crowd. Some Hindu right wing organizations forced shopkeepers to close their shops, escalating the tension. Heavy police force has been deployed in the village to maintain law and order.

People started gathering near Chaugan Darwaja since morning. There were reports that youths burnt tyres at Lanka Gate junction and Suryamal Mishran junction. Many people took out a protest rally on two-wheelers.

A religious rally was being taken out on Ram Navami on Sunday. When the rally reached Meera Gate, those participating in the rally alleged that some people hurled stones on the rally, leading to tension in the town.

On Monday, people gathered outside Kotwali police station and blocked the road. More than 10 people were rounded up for disrupting peace.

“We have deployed police force. The situation is under control. We are assuring people those involved in the stone pelting incident will be brought to the book. Further investigation is going on,” said an administration officer.
