The Rajasthan anti-corruption bureau (ACB) on Wednesday arrested a sub-inspector (SI), identified as Basant Singh, for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 1 lakh. The police officer was deputed in Pahari police station in Bharatpur. He was allegedly taking the bribe in a rape case, according to ACB officials.
Basant Singh allegedly asked a constable Kartar Singh to accept the bribe. Kartar Singh was allegedly caught red-handed. Both were arrested under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act. An interrogation with them is going on.
One Mohammed Rashid had approached the ACB and complained against SI Basant Singh. He alleged that the officer was demanding Rs 1.5 lakh in connection with a rape case.
“We verified the complaint on Tuesday. Basant Singh took Rs 18,000 from our complainant. We then laid a trap on Wednesday,” said a police officer.
The trap was organized under the supervision of a DSP-rank officer from ACB. Rashid gave Kartar Singh Rs 1 lakh following which the constable was arrested. The ACB team then arrested Basant Singh.
Searches were being carried out at the residences and other places belonging to the two accused till the reports last came in. Both will be produced in a court.
