Barmer accident: 2 Congress workers killed, eight others injured

Jaipur: Two Congress party workers were killed, while eight others were injured when the SUV they were travelling in overturned near Barmer town in Rajasthan on Saturday. The Congress party workers were going to Barmer to attend a Mera Booth, Mera Gaurav function from nearby Tirsingada village. The police are investigating as to how the vehicle lost balance.
A police officer said that the Bolero car overturned on Bishala Road. The accident claimed the lives of Heeraram and Madharam. The victims died on the spot. Both were residents of Tirsingada village. Those who were injured include Sumararam, Gauro Devi, Aduram, Kumparam, Jeevaram, Sheraram and Chetram.
The injured were rushed to a government hospital where they are undergoing treatment. One of the victim was referred to a hospital in Jodhpur due to his critical condition. Senior politicians including MLA Mewaram Jain reached the hospital to check on the accident victims.
“We are investigating as to how the accident took place. Prima-facie it seems that the vehicles the victims were travelling in lost balance. The bodies have been put in the mortuary of a government hospital for postmortem examination,” said a police officer.
In another accident in Sikar district, three people – members of a family from Haryana, were killed when the jeep they were travelling in collided with a truck. The victims were on their way to Haryana on Jaipur-Jhunjhunu road. Two people were killed on the spot, while more than six others including women and children were injured. The injured victims were rushed to a hospital in Khandela town in the district. They were then referred to a hospital in Jaipur.
