Akshardham Temple History
This temple holds a special place in the hearts of many as it is one of the nine prestigious temples built by the Swaminarayan sect in prominent cities across India. Its rich history and cultural significance make it an essential pilgrimage site for devout Hindus.
The Bochasanvasi Shri Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan, who belonged to the Swaminarayan Sampradaya, contributed to the development of these temples. Among them is the renowned Swaminarayan Temple, also known as Swaminarayan Akshardham, which is widely considered one of the most sacred and highly sought-after destinations to explore in Jaipur.
The Akshardham temple’s origins are rooted in modern history, having been constructed in the late 19th to early 20th century, and dedicated to the deity Lord Narayan. It is affiliated with the Nar Narayan Dev Gadi, which is one of the two prominent seats comprising the Sampradaya. The organization’s headquarters are situated in Ahmedabad, specifically at the Shri Swaminarayan Mandir. Unlike many other temples with mythological pasts, Akshardham temple has a comparatively more recent history.
