Accident: 2 footpath dwellers die, 2 injured as drunk property dealer runs SUV over them near Saras Pulia

Jaipur: Two people were crushed to death, while two others are believed to have seriously injured when a property dealer, identified as Bharat Bhushan Meena, lost balance of his SUV under the influence of alcohol and rammed it into footpath near Sarar Pulia in Malviya Nagar area late on Thursday.

Bharat Bhushan, a resident of Karauli was arrested by the police who are considering to slap charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder.

The victims were sleeping on the footpath. Bharat Bhushan was so drunk that he kept trying to drive his vehicle that was stuck in the boundarywall after the incident even when people got crushed under it.

One of the victims died on the spot, while another succumbed to injuries at a hospital. The four victims have been identified as Jagmohan Meena of Dausa, Sitaram Yadav from Madhya Pradesh, Shahid Khan of Bharatpur and Nanuram Bairwa of Bundi district of Rajasthan. They were drifters who used to sleep on footpath.

The SUV was coming towards Saras Flyover (Pulia) from Gandhi Nagar railway station. One of the locals Kishore Lal said, the driver was so drunk that he was not able to walk properly when he got out of the car. He was completely out of his senses due to intoxication. He ran the SUV over people sleeping on the footpath without even realizing what he had done and tried to drive even after the accident.

Bharat Bhushan Meena was arrested reportedly told the police that he was on his way home after attending a friend’s party. He had come to Jaipur from Karauli four days ago to visit his parents, wife and children who live in Jaipur.
