ACB trap: Suman Gurjar expelled from Congress; remanded in judicial custody

Jaipur: A day after woman parshard (corporator) of Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) Suman Gurjar was arrested by ACB for taking bribe, the Congress expelled her from the party. She was the parshad from Ward Number – 39 and also the vice president of the Woman Congress. Suman Gurjar is a chairwoman of a JMC committee.

She was produced in a court on Saturday. The court remanded her in judicial custody.

The ACB had arrested Suman Gurjar after she was caught red-handed taking bribe of Rs 1.25 lakh from a contractor. She was demanding the bribe to get the bills approved for the work undertaken by the corporator in her ward area.

“The contractor had won the tender of road construction worth Rs 60 lakh. The corporator demanded a 3% cut which amounts to nearly 1.75 lakh. We verified the complaint. Suman Gurjar took Rs 50,000 at the time of verification. When the complaint was found genuine, a trap was laid and she was caught red-handed taking bribe of Rs 1.25 lakh,” said an ACB officer.

 “She was arrested when she was taking a total bribe of Rs 1.25 lakh from the complainant. Rs 50,000 was in form of cash, while Rs 75,000 in form of a cheque,” said the ACB officer.  

She was suspended by the party on Friday night.

“We produced her in a court that sent her in judicial custody. She was booked under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act. Further investigation is going on,” said the officer.
