JCTSL MD Virendra Verma arrest

JCTSL MD Veerendra Kumar Verma was arrested by ACB

Jaipur: The state anti-corruption bureau (ACB) on Saturday arrested Rajasthan Administrative Service (RAS) officer Virendra Verma, currently posted as Officer Special Duty (OSD) in Jaipur City Transport Service Limited (JCTSL), after he was caught taking a bribe of Rs 4 lakh, senior ACB officers said. They added that Varma was taking the bribe to approve a tender for 100 mini buses.

Two more men, identified as retired contractual employee Mahesh Goyal and Paras Travel Agency owner, were also arrested for offering the bribe. They were handing over the bribe amount to Verma when the trio was trapped and arrested, agency officials said.

DG, ACB BL Soni said that Verma was demanding bribe for allotting tender for 100 mini-busses.

Verma was booked under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act. Searches were going on at the house, office and other places belonging to him. In a search at Verma’s house, the ACB officials allegedly found a cash amount of Rs 7 lakh and documents indicating ownership of three plots and agricultural land.

Sources said that the JCTSL employees have not been paid salaries for the past three months. The fact that a top officer of the department was caught taking the bribe has not gone down well with the employees. They said that while the senior officers are involved in corruption, they are struggling to feed their families.
