Jaipur: Rajasthan Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Tuesday arrested a junior engineer and senior assistant posted at Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) in Sriganganagar for taking a bribe of Rs 20,000.
According to the ACB, they had received a complaint that PHED engineer Amarjeet Singh and senior assistant Baluram Budaniya were demanding a bribe of Rs 20,000 for clearing the pending dues.
“The complainant had carried out construction under different schemes in Gharsana for which bills were pending with the department. Both Singh and Budaniya were allegedly harassing the complainant and refusing to authorise the release of dues until some bribe was given to them,” said an official.
The ACB officials after verification of complaint found the allegations to be prima facie true and laid a trap. The duo was caught red-handed while they were accepting bribe and subsequently arrested by the ACB.
Senior ACB officials confirmed that searches are being conducted at residence and offices of both Budaniya and Singh. “We have booked them under different sections of the prevention of corruption act. Searches are underway at different location in the same case,” said an ACB official on the condition of anonymity.
