ACB trap in Jhalawar: AdCP arrested taking a bribe of Rs 40,000

Jaipur: Rajasthan anti-corruption bureau (ACB) on Thursday arrested additional district project coordinator in Jhalawar Dipak Varma after he was allegedly caught red-handed taking a bribe of Rs 40,000. Varma was demanding the bribe to approve payment for construction work to a contractor.
DG ACB BL Soni said that the ACB trap was carried out by Kota rural branch of the agency. A complaint had been registered by a contractor against Dipak Varma. The ACB complainant had carried out building construction work under the National Secondary Education Project. He was to be made a payment of Rs 22 lakh for the work. Dipak Varma was allegedly demanding 2 percent of the total amount (Rs 44,000) to clear the bills.
The complaint was verified and when it was found genuine, a trap was laid under the supervision of ACB add SP Dr Prerana Shekhawat. ACB officials said that the officer was arrested after he was caught taking the bribe red-handed. Two other officers are also under ACB scanner.
Dipak Varma was booked under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act and arrested. He will be produced in a court on Friday. In yet another trap in Mandawar area of Dausa, a head constable was arrested after he was caught taking a bribe of Rs 3000. Head constable Chataru Ram was demanding the bribe to make two people reach a compromise in an FIR registered with Mandawar police station.
