Jaipur:  Rajasthan Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested an engineer posted at Rajasthan housing board for taking a bribe of Rs 1 lakh on Friday.

Vijay Kumar, posted as a project engineer at the housing board’s engineering department, turned pale when ACB sleuths allegedly caught him red-handed with the bribe. The accused was allegedly pestering a contractor for the past several days for money by offering to provide an advantage in the tender process.

According to officials, the housing board a few days ago had invited tenders for a project. The contractor also filed for the tender process.

As an engineer, Kumar was responsible for the examination of the bid. When the contractor’s file arrived for the tainted engineer’s discretion, he demanded a bribe of Rs 1 lakh for making the report of the bidding examination that could favor the contractor.

The contractor approached the ACB with a complaint that Kumar was demanding the bribe to pass the file. After a prime facie investigation, the ACB found allegations to be true and decided to trap Kumar.

The bureau laid a trap and sent the complainant to Kumar’s office with the money. As soon as Kumar took the cash, the sleuths laying in hiding barged in and arrested him.

The ACB officials said that they are conducting searches at Kumar’s residence and other locations. The bureau has not ruled out the possibility of other people being involved in the bribery case.
