Jaipur: Rajasthan anti-corruption bureau (ACB) on Wednesday arrested an executive engineer and his wife after the former was allegedly caught red-handed accepting a bribe of Rs 60,000 in the Khetri area of Jhunjhunu.
The wife was arrested for trying to hide the bribe money while the ACB trap was in progress. She threw the money under a bed. Both have been booked under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act. Further investigation is going on.
According to DG, ACB BL Soni, the agency received a complaint from a PHED contractor. In the complaint, the contractor alleged that he had done various works for PHED and a payment of Rs 5.54 lakh was due to him. The executive engineer, identified as Ram Singh, was demanding Rs 70,000 from the ACB complainant to release the payment.
The complaint was verified by the ACB and when it was found genuine, a trap was laid by the ACB’s Jhunjhunu unit.
Ram Singh was caught red-handed accepting a bribe of Rs 60,000 from the ACB complaint at his residence on Wednesday. When the ACB team reached the spot, the engineer’s wife took the money from her husband and threw it under the bed to hide it, DG Soni said. The bribe money was recovered and both were taken into custody.
