Jaipur: The Rajasthan anti-corruption bureau (ACB) has initiated a probe against suspended Jaipur Greater Municipal Corporation mayor Somya Gurjar’s husband Rajaram Gurjar and BVG India Limited. A primary enquiry (PE) has been initiated after a video showing Rajaram demanding Rs 20 crore from a member of BVG went viral on social media, ACB sources said.

The video shows Rajaram negotiating ‘commission’ to be paid by BVG for the payment of Rs 276 crore. JMC is to pay Rs 276 crore to BVG for waste disposal and collection in the city. The video shows Rajaram and Sandeep Choudhary – a member of BVG – negotiating money to be paid as ‘commission’ to approve the bills for the pending payment.

Somya Gurjar had been suspended by the Congress government after she allegedly accused the JMC commissioner of being hand-in-glove with BVG. While the BJP is protesting against the suspension calling it unconstitutional, Somya landed in trouble after the video surfaced.

Her husband Rajaram has registered a complaint with the police alleging that the video was an attempt to malign his and his wife’s image as they were planning to move court against the suspension. He said that the video was doctored. He accused Sandeep Choudhary and some others including JMC officials of hatching this conspiracy.

BVG has also refuted these allegations. A total of three video clips and 5 audio clips went viral on social media.
