Jaipur: Rajasthan Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Saturday arrested the financial advisor of Greater Municipal Corporation in Jaipur on charges of collecting bribes from contractors through two middlemen. The two middlemen were also arrested.

The ACB recovered a cash amount of Rs 27 lakh and documents showing ownership of more than 10 pieces of agricultural land documents from the house of one of the brokers.

ACB DG BL Soni said that the accused officer, Achaleshwar Meena, is a financial advisor in Municipal Corporation Greater, Jaipur. The two middlemen were identified as Dhankumar Jain and Anil Agarwal. Both of them are contractors in the Municipal Corporation. A preliminary investigation revealed that the accused officer used to collect bribes as commission from the firms and contractors in lieu of approving tenders for various works, inspections, measurements, bills and payments.

The accused Achaleshwar Meena used to collect this amount from other contractor firms through both the middlemen. ACB suspects that some senior municipal corporation officers accept bribes through Achaleshwar. He used to collect commission on their behalf. Further investigation is going on.

The ACB had received a complaint in this regard about three months ago. Under the supervision of Add SP, ASP Bajrang Singh Shekhawat, the mobile phones of Achaleshwar Meena and other officers, and both the middlemen were put under surveillance. The complaint was verified. On Friday, the ACB received a tip-off that Dhan Kumar Jain was to hand over the amount collected from the contractors to financial advisor Achaleshwar Meena. Then ACB had been tracking both of them since Friday. Both Achaleshwar and Dhan Kumar met with a bag in their possession.

The ACB first raided Achaleshwar Meena’s house in Siddharth Nagar area of Jawahar Circle. The ACB team then raided the house of the contractor Dhankumar Jain.
