Man whose son was ‘lynched’ by mob in Alwar commits suicide

Jaipur: A man whose son was allegedly lynched by a mob in Alwar last month committed suicide by consuming poisonous substance in Bhiwadi area. The man – identified as Rattiram Jatav – had accused the police of shielding the suspects involved in killing his son. He had told the media persons that the police were trying to write off his death by terming it accidental in order to shield the suspects. It is believed he was depressed over this son’s death.

His son, Harish Javat, was suspected to have been killed by a mob of villagers following a road accident near a village in Chopanaki police station area. Harish was on a bike. The bike hit a woman following which she was injured. The people who were near the accident spot caught Harish and beat him up. Harish was seriously injured and was rushed to a local hospital. He was referred to a hospital in Delhi due to his critical condition where he died while undergoing treatment.

Harish’s father registered an FIR with the police. The villagers also lodged a case. The police were investigating both the FIRs. Meanwhile, Rattiram accused the administration of attempting to shield those involved in killing his son.

Rattiram consumed poisonous substance on Thursday. He was rushed to a hospital by his family members. He was declared brought dead by the doctors.

Alwar has been in news due to mob lynching cases recently. A local court in Alwar recently acquitted all the accused in Pehlu Khan mob lynching case.

Pehlu Khan was lynched by a mob of cow vigilantes in Alwar’s Behror area. His family members registered an FIR naming many people. The vigilantes intercepted his vehicle and beat him and nearly 15 other people severely. He died while undergoing treatment.

The Rajasthan government recently enacted a law against mob lynching becoming the second state to do so after Manipur.
