Jaipur: New grasslands at Jhalana to prevent wild animals from straying into residential areas

Jaipur: The forest department is developing grassland in Jhalana Leopard Reserve to prevent wild animals from straying into the residential colonies in the city.
According to the forest officials, the animals such as deer and Nilgai (blue bull) stray into residential areas of the city in the search of food. The tigers or panthers also follow them endangering their own life and those of people living in these residential areas.
To curb the incident of wild animals straying into human habitats, the forest department is planning to develop two grasslands in Jhalana forest reserve.
Grassland covering two hectares of land is being developed near Forest Road – 1 and grassland of one-hectare land is being developed near Forest Road – 3, said officials.
Also, old grassland near Forest Road – 2 is being redeveloped. The work is in a final stage, added forest officials.
Recently, the forest department increased the gypsy booking price for Jhalana safari on April 6.
To book a gypsy for six people, the domestic tourists will pay Rs 2358. The booking price was earlier Rs 2316. The international tourists will pay a gypsy booking price of Rs 4098. It was earlier 3906.
The safari for the Jhalana jungles was launched during the Vasundhara Raje government in May last year. The forest where the entry of tourists is allowed is spread over an area of 20 square kilometers. There are 31 panthers along with other wildlife animals.
