MCI axes PG seats in seven government and private medical colleges in Rajasthan.

Jaipur: The Medical Council of India (MCI) has denied the permissions to start or increase seats of MD in seven medical colleges in Rajasthan. They include four government and three private medical colleges.

The action has been taken for the alleged lack of infrastructure, resources and faculty in these colleges as per the MCI guidelines. This has come as a big setback to medical and health education in the state as the MCI had earlier refused to give approval to seven new medical colleges that the Rajasthan government wanted to open in the state.

The MCI conducts annual inspection of medical colleges. During these inspections, the agency allegedly found lacuna and abolished MD seats in seven medical colleges in Rajasthan. The MCI also recommended not to approve many courses in pediatrics, ENT, general surgery and mother other departments in these medical colleges.
