The blasts took place in Kumawat community building around 6 pm on Friday. Nearly 21 injured people were rushed to a local hospital. Of them, six were referred to Ajmer due to their critical condition.

Jaipur: The death toll in the LPG cylinder explosion during a wedding function in Nand Nagar area of Beawar town in Ajmer district rose to five, according to the latest reports. At least 17 other people were injured in the blasts that ripped through the neighborhood and damaged several other buildings in the vicinity.

The blasts took place in Kumawat community building around 6 pm on Friday. Nearly 21 injured people were rushed to a local hospital. Of them, six were referred to Ajmer due to their critical condition. Several others are reported missing. The rescue teams have launched a rescue operation amid fears that they might be trapped under the debris.

The incident happed during a function organized for the wedding of Hemant Patlecha. The cylinder exploded due to the alleged negligence of the cooks who were preparing dishes on the second floor of the building. According to preliminary reports, the cook was trying to transfer LPG from one cylinder to another when it caught fire and exploded.

About a dozen buildings in the neighborhood were damaged in the explosions. The entire building came down. Many people got trapped under the debris.

District collector Gaurav Goyal and other administration officers were trying to prepare a list of missing people. The collector himself was on the spot till late night. Jawans of NDRS and SDRF were roped in to remove the debris.
