Chittorgarh accident: Jashodaben discharged from hospital, driver killed

Jaipur: Jashoda Ben, the estranged wife of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and two other women were injured, while one man died when the car they were travelling in collided with a truck near Chittogarh in Rajasthan on Wednesday. Jashodaben had a narrow escape, however, she is learnt to have received minor injuries. She was provided first-aid.
A total of seven people were in the car, mostly relatives of Jashodaben. The mishap occurred on Kota-Chittor Highway, some 60 kilometers from Chittogarh town. The deceased was identified as Basant Bhai who is believed to be driving the car when the accident occurred. He died on the spot due to excessive bleeding.
According to reports, Jashodaben and her relatives had come to Kota to attend a family function. The family was travelling from Atru in Baran to a place called Unjha in Gujarat.
They included a five-year-old child and a police gunman who was provided to her for security. A woman, identified as Vimla Modi, the gunman Yatendra and the child sustained injuries in the accident. Vimla and Yatendra have been rushed to a hospital in Udaipur for treatment.
SDM, Chittogarh Suresh Khatik was quoted as saying that Jashodaben escaped almost unhurt; however, she was given primary treatment and then discharged.
“An investigation has been launched into the cause of accident,” said the officer.
The collision was so intense that the first portion of the Innova car in which the family was travelling was completely damaged.
As the news of the accident spread, a huge crowd of commuters and people from nearby residential areas gathered at the spot. Senior police and administration officers also rushed to the scene. Jashodaben is a retired school teacher.
Ater the accident, senior Congress leader Ashok Gehlot tweeted, “Sad to learn about the road accident near #Chittorgarh, #Rajasthan in which #Jashodaben and others got injured and one person died… May God give strength to bereaved family… Hope and pray those injured recover soon.”
