Jaipur: In the chargesheet filed in Thanagazi gang rape case, the Alwar police has named six people as accused, five of them charged with gangrape, kidnap, intimidation, harassment and several other crimes.

The sixth suspect has been booked for sharing the video of the gang rape on YouTub, WhatsApp and other social media platforms, causing it to go viral. The YouTube channel where the accused shared the video has also been named in the chargesheet.

The incident took place on April 26. The FIR was however lodged on May 2. After facing embarrassment and backlash for delaying the registration of the FIR, the police completed the investigation and submitted the chargesheet within 16 days.

The first two arrests were made on May 7. The cops nabbed Mukesh Gurjar for sharing the video on social media and one of the main accused in the gang rape case Indraj Gurjar. Ashok Gurjar was arrested on May 8, while Hansraj, Mahesh and Chhotelal Gurjar were arrested on May 9. The chargesheet was filed just 10 days after all the accused were arrested.

A case officer was appointed to ensure a fast investigation and an application for a day-to-day hearing was filed in the local court.

The IPS and ST/ST Act sections under which the suspects have been booked have the provision for rigorous life imprisonment. The suspects have been booked under 20 sections of three different Acts.

Meanwhile, the Rajasthan government has given a go-ahead to the home department’s proposal of appointing the rape survivor as a police constable. The victim has asked for her posting in Jaipur city.
